Governor Deval Patrick declined to sign a bill that would have established licensure in Massachusetts. By failing to act, the Governor allowed the bill, which had been passed by both houses of the state legislature, to die.
Despite this setback, members of the Massachusetts Society of Naturopathic Doctors vow to continue their fight. They anticipate that a new bill will be re-introduced in the coming days.
The Governor has not yet publicly described his specific reasons for not signing the bill. Members of MSND believe that once they have a clear understanding of the issues of concern to the Governor, they can revise the bill accordingly and find common ground. They DO know that issues were not with the content of the bill, rather with administrative aspects related to governance.
MSND is grateful for the outpouring of support for the bill. The chances for future enactment are greatly enhanced by the fact that both chambers of the legislature have already approved a bill.
