About Bastyr University

Bastyr University, located near Seattle, Washington, is internationally recognized as a pioneer in natural medicine. As the largest accredited university for natural health arts and sciences in the U.S., Bastyr offers more than 17 degree and certificate programs in fields such as naturopathic medicine, acupuncture & Oriental medicine, and whole-food nutrition. Founded in 1978, the University now includes a leading-edge research facility (the Bastyr University Research Institute) and outstanding clinical training at Bastyr Center for Natural Health. The University’s second campus, Bastyr University California, opened in San Diego, California, in fall 2012, becoming the state’s first and only accredited school of naturopathic medicine.
For the second year in a row Congress has unanimously voted to designate a week focused on naturopathic medicine, resulting in the second annual national Naturopathic Medicine Week, October 6-12, 2014.

“It is immensely gratifying to see naturopathic medicine recognized with its own week for a second consecutive year,” says Bastyr University President Daniel K. Church, PhD. “The attention and credibility that the profession has and continues to receive is well-deserved, and will go a long way in spreading knowledge about the increasingly important role of naturopathic doctors in today’s society.”

Naturopathic Medicine Week honors those in the profession and sheds light on the strides made in recent years. To celebrate this achievement and to further the goals of the week, Bastyr Center for Natural Health is inviting the public to a free event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, which will feature:
  • Free blood pressure readings
  • 10 percent off regularly priced merchandise in the Bastyr Dispensary
  • Information tables
  • Healthy refreshments
  • Coupons for free appointments and more
Additionally, there will be a free lecture from 10:30 a.m. to noon called "Finding the Right Supplement for You," by Stephen Phipps, ND, PhD, who will discuss how naturopathic medicine can help you:
  • Know when it's the right time to add supplements to your diet
  • Find the right supplements for your health
Learn about interactions with prescription medications
