During this year’s AANP annual meeting in Phoenix, the Institute for Natural Medicine (INM) received donations from individuals in attendance and the INM pledged to forward 25% of that amount to the state association indicated on their pledge card. This month the INM presented 10 checks totaling $1800 representing this commitment.
The associations receiving the funding include the states of Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
Michelle Simon, ND, PhD and Chair of the INM expressed that the Board and donor’s appreciate the tireless efforts of state associations. Their efforts to ensure regulators enforce federal laws that require inclusion of all licensed healthcare professions, including naturopathic medicine, in health insurance coverage are especially appreciated. State policymakers need to learn about the full range of diagnostic and treatment services that naturopathic physicians are trained to deliver. The INM will continue to support this progam by providing funding.
The INM is urgently seeking major donor support from individuals, organizations or foundations to fund a pilot project. This project will provide executive leadership to assist state volunteer associations. Dr. Simon hopes this will fast track efforts to bring about formal state licensing laws in states that are not currently licensed.
