Keystone, CO, July 13 - The American Association of Naturopathic Physicians unveiled its new tagline at its recent conference in Keystone, CO – “Naturopathic Physicians: Natural Medicine. Real Solutions.” The tagline is one product of extensive consumer research AANP has undertaken to learn how current and prospective patients view naturopathic physicians. The insights gained through the research will guide AANP’s ongoing public education efforts about naturopathic medicine.
According to Jud Richland, CEO of AANP, the tagline captures several important concepts. “Patients are often frustrated with the conventional medical system’s heavy reliance on prescription drugs and invasive procedures. That’s why so many patients are seeking out naturopathic physicians, who are trained to identify and address underlying health issues and, whenever possible, address those issues with diet, lifestyle management, and natural therapies.”
AANP contracted with The Telocity Group, a leading consumer research firm, to assist AANP in planning its public education efforts. Telocity fielded an online survey of current and prospective patients of naturopathic physicians, conducted in-depth interviews with consumers and stakeholder in the naturopathic medicine community, and convened interactive sessions with AANP members. AANP then solicited extensive feedback from its members before deciding on the tagline.
AANP’s previous tagline, “Physicians Who Listen,” accurately describes naturopathic physicians’ training to understand as best they can all of the factors affecting a patient’s health. AANP leaders felt, however, that the tagline did not capture what happens after the listening is done, namely, that naturopathic physician use their extensive education and training to guide the patient to a return to health.
AANP’s members are licensed naturopathic physicians. They must have graduated from a four-year naturopathic medical school accredited by the federally-recognized Council on Naturopathic Medical Education, and they must have passed a national licensing examination.
