American Association of Naturopathic Physicians to Provide Naturopathic Education for Physicians, Nurses, Pharmacists, Physician Assistants, Dietitians, Certified Health Education Specialists, and Others in the Health Care Team

Washington, DC – July 22, 2015 -- The American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) is partnering with The Foundation for Care Management (FCM) to accredit naturopathic education programs for physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, dietitians, certified health education specialists, and others in the health care team.

The AANP is a recognized national authoritative voice in naturopathic medicine and is an association that represents naturopathic doctors (NDs). NDs are physicians trained as specialists in natural medicine.

"According to a recent NIH survey[1], 33% of American adults use some form of complementary, alternative or integrative treatment," said Dr. Kasra Pournadeali, President of the AANP. "As experts in natural medicine, NDs are well positioned to address this existing and growing patient need."

NDs are able to integrate effective, natural treatments safely with prescription medications, often working with conventional medical physicians and other health care professionals to ensure the most comprehensive and safest care possible. This collaboration among NDs and other health care professionals creates a win-win for patients.

AANP intends to enhance these collaboration opportunities via education programs on integrative approaches to common patient conditions. The association will seek to develop education programs that focus on cancer, diabetes, obesity, digestive disorders, fertility problems, and other conditions.

The FCM and AANP will jointly offer a variety of continuing education credit for these education programs. FCM is accredited with commendation through the ACCME for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM (for physicians) and is an approved provider of continuing nursing education (CNE) by the Washington State Nurses Association. FCM is also accredited by the ACPE for Pharmacy CE. The AANP is accredited to offer CE for NDs and will seek to accredit for dietitian CPE and CHES Continuing Education Contact Hours (CECH) on a per-activity basis.

If you are interested providing commercial support for these programs or are interested in partnering with AANP on developing these education programs, please contact the AANP.
