Higher Education Act

Higher Education Act Reauthorization Passes, School as Lender Program Maintained!

On July 31, 2008, the U.S. Senate and House passed amendments to the Higher Education Act, reauthorizing the act for the next five years. The bill, HR 4137, was passed with an overwhelming majority, with a House vote of 380 to 49, and a Senate vote of 83 to 8. HR 4137 will become law upon the President’s signature. The bill retains the School as Lender program, and establishes an audit requirement for program participants. This is great news for naturopathic medical schools that have utilized the School as Lender program to provide scholarships for their students. I want to thank everyone for their contribution to this highly successful grassroots effort. It has put our naturopathic medical schools on the map and played a significant role in this success.

Sincerely,
Karen Howard
