Naturopathic Medicine Week Celebrated Nationwide
The profession’s second annual Naturopathic Medicine Week was held across the country October 6 - 12, 2014. Events included open houses, film screenings, tree plantings, auctions, wine tastings, free blood pressure screenings and bodywork demonstrations, lectures, and medicinal discounts. Each of the medical schools held activities on campus. The Naturopathic Gathering at Bridgeport University and the annual conference of the Illinois Association of Naturopathic Physicians were both timed to coincide with the Week. The Naturopathic Medical Students Association also commenced a friendly competition between schools to see who could amass the most points based on the number of activities undertaken.
AANP reached out to health care policy leaders, getting David Katz, MD, a renowned integrative practitioner, to tweet about the Week. He also posted an eloquent tribute to naturopathic medicine in the Huffington Post. Individual NDs tweeted and took the initiative to garner local press coverage themselves. Resolutions recognizing Naturopathic Medicine Week were issued by officials ranging from the Governor of Arizona to the Mayor of Mountlake Terrace, WA.
In all these ways, the Week’s theme of EUREKA! (“I found it!) spread the excitement of discovering naturopathic medicine to thousands of prospective patients, and to tens of thousands more through traditional and social media. If you held an event that you didn’t email AANP about – or if you can pass along photos from the activities you held – please contact Mike Jawer, Director of Government and Public Affairs.
Thanks for making Naturopathic Medicine Week so successful in 2014!
