Naturopathic Medicine Week

2017 NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE WEEK

The 5th Annual U.S. Naturopathic Medicine Week will be held October 9-15, 2017. This is a prime opportunity to showcase the value of what you do with patients, prospective patients, reporters, and community leaders through a variety of creative activities, events, and messages.

In prior years, countless AANP members (practicing NDs as well as students) have organized events ranging from open houses, fun runs and lectures to wine tastings, film showings, health fairs and raffles. They’ve also penned articles for local newspapers, obtained television interviews, blogged and tweeted and otherwise spread the word through social media. Some state associations have even had Proclamations signed by their governors recognizing Naturopathic Medicine Week and declaring naturopathic medicine “safe, effective, and affordable.”

What can you do? Anything and everything under the sun! On this page are a variety of ideas and resources you can download and put to immediate use. AANP encourages not only individual NDs but state associations, naturopathic medical schools, and partnering businesses to take part.

So, get creative. Do your bit to promote the benefits of what you do professionally! You'll be helping to gain patients, generate visibility, and ultimately improve our health care system.

How will you celebrate NMW?

Naturopathic Medicine Week 2016 Highlights
NDs and students across the country celebrated Naturopathic Medicine Week from October 10-16.  This was the 4th annual observance of the Week – as initially created by the United States Senate through its Resolution urging Americans to learn more about “the value of naturopathic medicine in providing safe, effective, and affordable health care.”  The Week affords an unparalleled opportunity to spread the word to patients, consumers, and the media.

Among last year's highlights:
  • Bastyr University’s San Diego Clinic held a Free Night for patients, offering them a complimentary 30-minute screening for mental/emotional health.  The clinic was also profiled in a local newspaper.  Faculty members gave public presentations and one was featured on a local TV channel. Bastyr actively posted to social media, linking to the University’s infographic on the 6 naturopathic medical principles.
  • The National University of Natural Medicine held wellness happy hours and raffled off merchandise and a book. Faculty members put on public talks, and health centers affiliated with the University offered free vaccinations, blood glucose tests, reproductive health exams, HIV tests, and hydrotherapy.
  • The Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine posted infographics and fun facts on Instagram as well as a video on naturopathic principles on Facebook. More than 15,000 people saw that Facebook post.
  • The Naturopathic Medical Student Association held its annual friendly competition among the schools, with the winner receiving the Golden Avocado trophy and a cash prize. A week-long bingo tournament, a wellness walk, T-shirts, social media posts and tweets are prime examples of student creativity.
  • State associations – such as the Georgia Association of Naturopathic Physicians – held their annual meeting during the Week.

Naturopathic Medicine Week was exciting and rewarding for all concerned.  The profession seizes the opportunity for creativity, outreach, and fun! What will you do this year? See below for ideas and please email communications@naturopathic.org with your updates and photos!
