Dr. Kasra Pournadeali, president of the AANP, made the presentation to Senator Ayotte, highlighting her cosponsorship of our Naturopathic Medicine Week Resolution last summer. The Senator’s support was crucial to the bill’s unanimous passage by the full Senate in the fall.

Dr. Pournadeali was accompanied by AANP President-Elect Jaclyn Chasse, ND, Tina Beaudoin, ND, president of the New Hampshire Association of Naturopathic Doctors (NHAND), and Andy Greenawalt, CEO of Emerson Ecologics. Efforts by both NHAND members and Emerson leaders were instrumental in obtaining Sen. Ayotte’s support.

In her acceptance of the award, Sen. Ayotte noted that naturopathic care is safe, affordable and effective, and commended the nation’s NDs for their focus on prevention and for keeping people well. She also offered greetings to participants of the DC FLI and encouraged them in their subsequent visits to Capitol Hill to educate Members of Congress about the benefits of naturopathic medicine.

Sen. Ayotte follows the 2014 recipients of AANP’s Congressional Champion Award: Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton of the District of Columbia and Senator Barbara Mikulski of Maryland, both original sponsors of Naturopathic Medicine Week in the House and Senate, respectively.
